Our Heritage: Persistence for Future Generations

We Are a Persistent People of Hope!
The Meriden United Methodist Church began as the Methodist Episcopal Church, which reportedly began meeting in 1872. It organized in 1873 with a membership of 25. In 1877, the frame edifice was erected in which the various religious societies jointly worshipped. The membership grew to 90 in 1895. The 1877 building was replaced in 1922 and then destroyed by fire in 1949. The church was rebuilt in 1950 and destroyed in the 1960 torando. The church was renamed Meriden United Methodist Church.
The fourth and present building, constructed in 1961, remains at the same location on Main and Dawson. Today it houses the sanctuary and Sunday School areas. On December 11, 2005, a Christian Life Center featuring an elevator, new offices, commons area, gymnasium, and handicap accessible restrooms with showers was dedicated. The large commercial capacity kitchen was completed in early November of 2007. The congregation is very excited to use these new facilities to live out our mission statement.
In December 2008 we started remodeling our 1960 fellowhip hall below the sanctuary. The Nursery and Sunday School area Open House was celebrated Sunday, August 30th, 2009. The children and teachers love it! We expect our new conference room to be finished soon.
Come join us and be a part of what will become tomorrow's heritage.
